Lesson Information

24 hour cancellation policy
A 24 hour cancellation policy is in effect. A student is required to give his/her instructor a minimum 24 hours notice of lesson cancellation, or the lesson fee is forfeited. Lessons cancelled less than 24 hours in advance will not be rescheduled.

Expectation and Lesson Etiquette
The student is expected to behave in an appropriate manner and agree to our online etiquette policy and Terms of Use. Lessons will begin at the appointed time confirmed by the teacher. A student arriving late will only receive instruction for the remaining portion of the allotted lesson time.
VSM students are committed to practicing their instruments on a regular basis and being prepared for their lessons. A lesson can be forfeited at the request of the teacher should a student not be prepared for his or her lesson.

Master Classes
A Master Class is an online session that is broadcast to a number of people at once, or to a classroom. For students in group lessons or Master Classes, a minimum of 5 students is required before a class can be confirmed.

Do I have to practice?
Yes. Practicing your instrument between lessons is a vital part of your music learning. As you practice, you will generally notice that you are able to play with increased skill. The skills you practiced on one song can be easily adapted to other songs in your repertoire. With a regular practice routine, many students notice that playing challenging songs become easier and a great sense of accomplishment is gained. VSM students are committed to practicing their instruments on a regular basis.

What if I have questions for my instructor between lessons?
Students are able to converse with their instructor via email throughout the semester of lessons. Our instructors are musicians that understand that the process of learning music cannot happen in an instant and are committed to assisting VSM students to reach their music goals to the best of their abilities. (Please keep in mind that due to our instructor’s schedules, email response time may vary.)

International Enrollment
With our current international student base, the VSM is constantly growing. If you have students that would benefit from a group lesson or Master Class, contact our office directly.

Before Your Lesson

Enrollment Confirmation
Once a student’s application has been approved, the student has set-up lesson times with his/her instructor, and payment received, an email confirmation will be sent to the student’s email account. A student must have an enrollment confirmation before a lesson can take place.

Computer Settings
Check to insure that all headset/microphone and video peripherals are on and set to audible levels. The Virtual School of Music is not responsible for lost lesson time due to computer hardware and setting adjustments.

Have your computer turned on and ready to communicate with your instructor at approximately ten minutes prior to your lesson time. This will permit you to verify your headset/microphone and video levels are set. Open and test communication software prior to your lesson time. If you are having trouble with your software, try re-starting your computer. Keep in mind that instructors have students before and after your lesson time and are on a strict schedule. In many cases, instructors are not able to teach beyond the appointed lesson times.
